How to reach the Helmers-Inn

From Schiphol by public transport

Take the train from Schiphol railway station to Amsterdam Central Station. From the station forecourt, take tram number 1 towards Osdorp and get off at the Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat stop. The street you are now on is called Overtoom; stepping out of the tram, turn right and walk until you reach the traffic lights. Turn to your left, cross over and keep walking straight on. You are now on Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat. Take the first side street on the left, with a coffee shop called "De Koffiesalon" on the corner, and continue until you reach number 69. The right-hand green door is the entrance to the Helmers-Inn.

From Utrecht by car

From Utrecht, take the A2 towards Amsterdam. When you reach Amsterdam, follow the Ring A10-Zuid orbital motorway towards Den Haag. After a few kilometres, stay on the Ring, now following the signs for Zaandam (Ring A10-West). Once you are on the Ring A10-West, take the first turning, signposted S106. At the traffic lights, turn right. Continue straight ahead for 3 sets of lights (straight across Surinameplein) and then cross the bridge. After this bridge, you can no longer go straight ahead so instead turn left onto Overtoom. At the third set of lights (some of which may not be operational), turn left. This is Tweede Constantijn Huygensstraat. Take the first turning on the right onto Eerste Helmersstraat. After 100 metres, you will find Helmers-Inn at number 69 on your right-hand side. Please ring the bell at the right-hand green door.

Public transport in general in the Amsterdam area

You can travel throughout Amsterdam and the surrounding area on public transport (tram, bus and metro) by using a so-called ‘strippenkaart’ (strip ticket). Your best option is to buy one of the larger strip tickets which are valid for several journeys/people. These tickets are available from post offices, tobacconists, AKO shops and the larger bus or train stations . This type of ticket allows you to make several journeys with several people, depending on the distance travelled. The driver or conductor will help you stamp the right number of strips. It is also possible to buy a ticket for just one ride when you get on the tram or bus. There are frequent public transport services during the daytime between 06.30 and 00.00. After this time, there are more limited night bus services.
